Nightguards & Sportsguards
Bruxism, or grinding and clenching your teeth, is a serious habit that many people have. It can lead to TMJ (temporomandibular joint) disorders, attrition (wearing away) of the teeth, tooth sensitivity, and various other problems. A conservative treatment option is to wear a nightguard. It is an acrylic, retainer-like appliance worn at night that protects your teeth from the forces of grinding. An impression of your teeth is taken, and is then used to fabricate the nightguard. Once it is ready, return to the office for a second visit to try it on, and make any adjustments so that you are comfortable wearing it. Similarly, a sportsguard can be made to protect teeth and jaw joints from trauma that may be sustained while playing sports, which is a crucial component of concussion prevention.
